Understanding PC Components - What are they?

CASE - This is where all of your pc components will be stored. Each case is completely different and they come in various colours, the main being black or white and can come with many different fans for cooling and RGB Lights for fun lighting.

Motherboard - The motherboard is the main components of your gaming pc. This is where most components are connected so they all power together. Each motherboard has a generation meaning if it's a 10th Generation motherboard it can only support a 10th or 11th Generation CPU.

CPU - The brains of your build. The CPU runs and controls almost everything your PC does. The more powerful your CPU the more you can do with your pc. Be careful when choosing your CPU as this one of the major factors in your build. The CPU generation also needs to match the motherboard generation in order for it to fit into the correct socket.

GPU - The heart and soul of your PC - The GPU is in charge of everything visual. This controls your graphics and a major effect on what settings you can run your games at such a low or Ultra. Together with your CPU this is one of the most important parts of your PC.

RAM - The memory, the RAM is essentially where all of your data is stored when your computer is in use. The more RAM the more your PC can do such as how many applications can run in the background while your gaming or editing. RAM comes in many sizes such as 8GB, 16GB OR 32GB and comes in various speeds.

PSU - The Power Supply unit. This gives your PC life. Power supplies come in various different watts and ratings. Each CPU and GPU requires a certain amount of power to run such as a RTX 3060 requires a 550W PSU whilst a more power hungry RTX 4090 requires a 850W. All of our power supplies are rated from 80Plus Bronze to 80Plus Platinum. Essentially, the higher the watt and higher the metal stages the more your PC can handle or more future proofed you will be.

Cooling - Fans and Water coolers are essential for performance. Generally the cooler your PC is the more performance you can get out of it. This is why RGB fans have become so popular. There are different types of cooler such as air cooling main used for case fans and water cooling which is mainly used to cool the CPU down.

Storage - This is where your Operating System such as Windows 11 will run from. This is also where all of your files and games will be stored. The more storage you have the more games and documents you can store. There are many types of storage available the main two you'll hear about are Solid State Drives (SSDs) or Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) SSDs are much faster and will normally be used as a boot drive so your PC and Windows runs much much faster. Hard drives are great too but are much slower.
